Uruguay

Vet requirements, breed rules, airline realities and what happens at the border · updated 2026-02-16

Official Import Rules

Uruguay requires a current rabies vaccination and a government-endorsed veterinary health certificate issued within 10 days of travel. A microchip is recommended. No import permit or titer test is needed for personal pet dogs. MGAP (Ministerio de Ganadería, Agricultura y Pesca) inspects animals on arrival at Carrasco International Airport (MVD) Montevideo. Uruguay is one of the easier South American countries for pet imports.
