About this route

Tallink Silja Line operates cruise ferries across the Baltic Sea and is a strong pet option between Scandinavian and Baltic capitals. Pet-friendly cabins are available in several cabin classes on most ships, with practical flooring. Up to three pets may be allowed per cabin. On fast Helsinki-Tallinn ferries, pets can also travel in vehicles. Kennel options may be available when pet cabins are full.

Dog travel details

Pet feeAbout €16 per pet each way; cabin prices vary

Dog notesSmall dogs in carriers may have more flexibility on fast routes, but larger dogs usually need pet cabins, vehicle travel or designated areas. Finland-bound dogs may need tapeworm treatment 1-5 days before entry unless an exemption applies.

BookingBook pet-friendly cabins at booking. Availability is limited and summer dates can sell out months ahead. Pet fees are separate from cabin cost.

Pro tipThe Helsinki-Stockholm overnight route is a comfortable surface route between Finland and Sweden. For dogs that dislike flights, sleeping on the ship and waking up in another country is far easier than cargo handling.

RestrictionsDogs are not allowed in restaurants, bars, pubs or children's areas. On overnight ships, pets must use pet cabins or designated accommodation. Dangerous breeds may be refused.
