About this route
Irish Ferries welcomes pets across routes with options including vehicles, free kennels, Pet Den lounges and pet-friendly cabins. Pet Den lounges are dedicated indoor areas with seating for owners and access to an outdoor walkway. Pet-friendly cabins are available on selected ships, including longer Ireland-France services. Kennels are free on some Irish Sea routes.
Dog travel details
Pet feePets declared at booking; kennels free on some Irish Sea routes
Dog notesDogs need to be leashed, and muzzle requirements can apply outside vehicles or cabins. For UK entry, dogs need the tapeworm treatment recorded in the required 24-120 hour window unless travelling from an exempt route. Long Dublin-Cherbourg crossings are much easier with a pet cabin than with vehicle-only travel.
BookingAdd dogs at booking to secure Pet Den, cabin or kennel space. Check-in can be earlier for pet documentation processing, especially on longer international routes.
Pro tipFor Dublin-Cherbourg, a pet-friendly cabin is strongly recommended. For shorter Irish Sea crossings, Pet Den or kennel options can work well if your dog settles in public pet spaces.
RestrictionsFoot passengers cannot bring pets on many routes. Dogs are not allowed in restaurants, lounges or general public areas. All pets require the correct passport or health certificate paperwork.
