Official Import Rules
Paraguay requires a current rabies vaccination (not administered before 3 months of age) plus vaccinations against dogs panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis, and calicivirus. Dogs must receive an internal and external antiparasitic (deworming/flea-tick) treatment within 14 days before travel. A permanent, ISO-compatible microchip is required, with its number matching the accompanying health/vaccination documentation. The key entry document is an International Veterinary Certificate (Certificado Veterinario Internacional, CVI), issued by the official veterinary/sanitary authority in the dog's country of origin (not by SENACSA), which is presented to a SENACSA veterinary inspector at the Paraguayan port of entry for document and health control. Up to 5 dogs/dogs per traveler qualify as personal pets with simplified entry; 6 or more animals are treated as a commercial shipment requiring separate live-animal import procedures through DNIT's single import window. Documents should be in Spanish. Arrival through Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU) Asunción.
