Official Import Rules

An import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture/Directorate General of Customs is required. Dogs must also have FVRCP vaccination and parasite treatment. Documents may need authentication by the Omani embassy. Arrival through Muscat International Airport (MCT).

City & Housing Notes

Muscat (Al Qurum, Shatti Al Qurum, Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos) is the main expat destination. Oman has a growing but still small pet culture. Several good vet clinics in Muscat serve the expat community. Many villa compounds welcome dogs.

Vets & Health After Arrival

Reasonable vet care in Muscat with several expat-oriented clinics. Limited outside the capital. Summer heat is extreme (45°C+) — AC essential. Dogs under 4 months old are NOT allowed entry. A pet relocation agent is strongly recommended for Oman.

Leaving Oman With Your Dog

Exit requires a health certificate from an approved vet and an export permit from the Ministry of Agriculture. Processing takes 5–7 working days.

Videos & Route Walkthroughs

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a pet agent recommended?

Strongly, yes. Oman's import process involves customs clearance that can be complex. A local agent familiar with the Bayan system will save significant time and stress.

Are dogs under 4 months allowed?

No. Oman does not allow dogs under 4 months of age to be imported.

How extreme is the heat?

Summer temperatures regularly exceed 45°C with high humidity on the coast. Indoor dogs with AC are fine. Outdoor access should be strictly limited May–September.

Community Tips & Nearby Routes

Community reports are useful for practical details such as which cargo desk answers the phone, how long collection took, or whether a landlord asked for insurance. Treat them as tips, then verify rules with the authority and airline.
