City & Housing Notes

Dhaka (Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara) is the main destination with the diplomatic zone offering the best infrastructure. Bangladesh has a growing pet culture in urban areas, particularly among the upper-middle class and expat community.

Vets & Health After Arrival

Limited vet care. Dhaka has a few adequate clinics in the Gulshan/Banani area. Quality varies widely. Rabies is endemic — vaccination critical. Outside Dhaka, vet care for dogs is virtually nonexistent. Bring essential medications.

Leaving Bangladesh With Your Dog

Exit requires a health certificate from a DLS-approved vet and an export permit. Processing takes 3–5 working days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dhaka safe for dogs?

The diplomatic zones (Gulshan, Baridhara) are the safest areas with the best infrastructure. Keep dogs indoors. Traffic, noise, and stray animal populations make outdoor access risky.

Is rabies a concern?

Yes, rabies is a major concern in Bangladesh. Keep vaccinations strictly current and prevent all contact with stray animals.

Is there a pet community?

Small but growing, mainly among expats and upper-middle class Bangladeshis in Dhaka. A few Facebook groups connect pet owners for advice and resources.

Community Tips & Nearby Routes

Community reports are useful for practical details such as which cargo desk answers the phone, how long collection took, or whether a landlord asked for insurance. Treat them as tips, then verify rules with the authority and airline.
