City & Housing Notes

Nassau (New Providence) and Freeport (Grand Bahama) have vet facilities. The Bahamas has a growing pet culture, particularly among the expat community. Several good vet clinics on New Providence. Outer islands have very limited vet care.

Vets & Health After Arrival

Adequate vet care in Nassau with several clinics. Freeport has fewer options. Outer islands (Exumas, Eleuthera, etc.) have minimal to no vet services — plan accordingly. The Bahamas Humane Society provides some services. Heartworm prevention essential year-round.

Leaving Bahamas With Your Dog

Exit requires a health certificate from a licensed Bahamian vet. Processing usually same-day.

Videos & Route Walkthroughs

Use videos as lived-experience context, not as legal authority. Search for recent dog-owner route reports, airport collection walkthroughs, crate-loading examples and relocation-agent explainers, then verify every rule against the official source above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 48-hour health certificate strict?

Yes. The Bahamas requires the health certificate within 48 hours of departure, shorter than most countries. Plan your vet visit carefully.

Can I take a dog to the outer islands?

You can, but vet care is extremely limited or nonexistent. Stock up on supplies and medications in Nassau before heading out.

Do I need a permit for each trip?

Yes, a new import permit is needed each time you bring a pet into the Bahamas, even if returning with the same animal.

Community Tips & Nearby Routes

Community reports are useful for practical details such as which cargo desk answers the phone, how long collection took, or whether a landlord asked for insurance. Treat them as tips, then verify rules with the authority and airline.
