DAFF — Transit to Mickleham (Melbourne)

Sydney Airport lacks a pet quarantine facility. Nearly all dogs entering Australia must arrive at Melbourne International for processing at Mickleham PEQ. Transhipment via Sydney is possible in limited circumstances but adds complexity and cost. Pet owners are strongly advised to route flights directly to Melbourne.

Collection Point

Sydney does NOT have its own quarantine facility. Almost all dogs must arrive at Melbourne for Mickleham PEQ. In limited circumstances, dogs may land at Sydney and be transhipped to Melbourne — confirm eligibility with DAFF well in advance.

Hours

DAFF: Mon–Fri business hours

Dog-Owner Tip

Fly your dog directly to Melbourne (MEL) whenever possible. After completing quarantine in Melbourne, your dog can travel domestically to Sydney. The same quarantine requirements, fees, and procedures apply regardless of routing.

Facility map

Map the animal facility, not just the passenger terminal.

The critical address is usually the cargo, animal reception, quarantine or border-inspection facility. Use this as a starting map search, then confirm the exact entrance with the airline, facility or receiving agent before travelling.

Before the flight

Send document scans early where the facility offers pre-checks, and confirm whether the airline treats your dog as cabin, checked baggage, AVIH or manifest cargo.

After landing

Wait for clearance updates. Cargo and animal reception facilities are often outside passenger terminals and may need a taxi, car or agent appointment.

What to carry

Bring photo ID, original veterinary documents, microchip details, airway bill numbers, agent contacts and a charged phone.
