USDA/CBP Inspection at Terminal

One of the busiest US airports for international pet arrivals. Unlike JFK (The ARK), O'Hare has no dedicated animal reception center. Accompanied pets clear through CBP at the terminal. The CDC requires dogs to have proof of rabies vaccination and meet origin-specific requirements. Dogs entering the US have no federal vaccination requirement but must appear healthy.

Collection Point

Accompanied pets clear through CBP in the arrivals terminal. Cargo pets are collected from airline cargo facilities along Cargo Road. Contact your airline's cargo division for exact building.

Hours

CBP: 24/7; cargo: carrier-specific

Dog-Owner Tip

No federal rabies vaccination requirement for dogs (only dogs), but airlines and states may have their own requirements. Illinois does not require a state health certificate for dogs. For cargo arrivals, coordinate pickup timing with the airline's cargo office. O'Hare's cargo area is spread across multiple buildings — get directions in advance.

Facility map

Map the animal facility, not just the passenger terminal.

The critical address is usually the cargo, animal reception, quarantine or border-inspection facility. Use this as a starting map search, then confirm the exact entrance with the airline, facility or receiving agent before travelling.

Before the flight

Send document scans early where the facility offers pre-checks, and confirm whether the airline treats your dog as cabin, checked baggage, AVIH or manifest cargo.

After landing

Wait for clearance updates. Cargo and animal reception facilities are often outside passenger terminals and may need a taxi, car or agent appointment.

What to carry

Bring photo ID, original veterinary documents, microchip details, airway bill numbers, agent contacts and a charged phone.
