LOT Polish Airlines

LOT Polish Airlines is Poland's flag carrier, offering an extensive network from its Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) hub that connects Central and Eastern Europe with Western Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East. LOT is a good option for dog owners traveling to or from Poland and the wider Central European region, accepting pets in both the cabin and hold. The airline is a Star Alliance member, providing codeshare connections with Lufthansa, United, and other major carriers.

Booking tip

LOT allows you to book pets through their call centre or at select travel agencies. The standard 8 kg cabin weight limit follows EU norms. For intercontinental flights to the US and Canada, LOT operates Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with pressurised, temperature-controlled hold compartments. Book early — LOT limits the number of animals per flight and cabin pets fill up quickly on popular Warsaw-London and Warsaw-New York routes.

Why it can work

LOT's Warsaw hub provides efficient connections between Western Europe and destinations in Eastern Europe, the Baltics, and Central Asia that other carriers may not serve. Pet fees are competitive, especially on intra-European routes. The airline's membership in the Star Alliance means your pet's journey can be coordinated with connections on United, Lufthansa, and other member airlines (though separate pet bookings are usually required for each operating carrier).

Restrictions

Brachycephalic breeds restricted from hold travel. UK-bound flights require cargo transport only. Pets must meet EU Pet Passport requirements for intra-EU travel. Minimum age 8 weeks for domestic, 15 weeks for international (to meet rabies vaccination timing). Hold transport suspended during extreme weather. Maximum 3 animals per passenger.

Dog-owner notes

LOT serves over 80 destinations from Warsaw, including direct flights to New York (JFK), Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), Toronto (YYZ), Seoul (ICN), and Tokyo (NRT). The airline also operates regional flights through its subsidiary LOT Express. For pet bookings, contact LOT's Customer Contact Centre or visit a LOT sales office. Phone: +48 22 577 99 52.

Final check before paying

Confirm the exact aircraft, route, dog breed, carrier size, temperature rules and destination import law directly with the airline. A country can allow dogs while a specific airline or aircraft refuses them.
