Cabin pets: 8 kg max including carrier
Etihad Airways
Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi, allows small dogs and cats to travel in the cabin on eligible Etihad-operated flights, subject to advance approval, route restrictions, and destination rules. Pets must be at least 16 weeks old and weigh no more than 8 kg including the carrier. Larger pets, restricted routes, or animals that do not qualify for cabin travel may still need to move through cargo or a specialist pet shipper.
Book early and confirm aircraft acceptance.
Under-seat dimensions can vary by aircraft.
Fees can change by region and currency.
Booking tip
Submit Etihad's pet booking form and required travel documents at least seven days before departure, then email all required documents at least 72 hours before the flight. If you are flying to Abu Dhabi, arrange the UAE release permit and health certificate before travel. For Business Class, call Etihad before booking because pet-friendly seats are limited and an extra seat is required.
Why it can work
Etihad is currently one of the strongest Gulf-carrier options for people who want a small dog or cat in the cabin rather than cargo. The Abu Dhabi hub gives useful connections across the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Africa, Europe, and Australia, while the official pet page publishes clear cabin carrier sizes, booking steps, and route restrictions.
Restrictions
Cabin pets are not accepted on every route. Etihad lists pet restrictions for Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Maldives, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Vietnam. Pets must be in an approved carrier, stay with you in the same cabin, and meet all destination import rules. Banned dog breeds and pregnant animals are not accepted.
Dog-owner notes
Etihad says dogs and cats can travel in Economy and Business if approved. Cabin fees start from USD 399 per flight; in Business you must also buy an extra seat. Pets must be at least 16 weeks old, the guest must be at least 18, and check-in is required three hours before departure. Always reconfirm the route and aircraft before paying for a ticket.
Final check before paying
Confirm the exact aircraft, route, dog breed, carrier size, temperature rules and destination import law directly with the airline. A country can allow dogs while a specific airline or aircraft refuses them.
